Project. Conserving Nature in Every Neighborhood: A Metro Greenspaces Program Report Client. Metro Parks and Greenspaces, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service A 32-page booklet encapsulates the history of the Greenspaces program, the region's natural resources, and selected greenspaces grants stories. The primary audience includes existing and potential funders, such as members of Congress and government agencies and foundations. A secondary audience encompasses those who might appreciate and further this work, such as other city governments, attendees at "green" conferences and the media.

Project. Forests, Carbon and Climate Change: A Summary of Science Findings (book editor) Client. Oregon Forest Resources Institute A 200-page book that ranges widely from explaining atmospheric carbon dioxide, to forest management strategies, to emerging carbon markets. Editing involved copyediting and rewrites of the work of 17 authors, coordinating 26 peer reviews, and managing the entire process. The editor's two-page summaries were published as a separate document.

Project. ICEWALK North Pole Expedition educational film series Client. PBS Educational Channel, ICEWALK North Pole Expedition, Amway A four-part series is based on Robert Swan's historic expedition to the North Pole, which included a mini-expedition of teenagers from around the world. Each program features an expedition saga leading into an environmental issue. Used internationally in classes for Biology, Earth Science, Environmental Sciences for 9th and 10th grade. Part 1. How Fragile these Frozen Seas. Part 2. A Storm of Acid Snow. Part 3. The Amazing Vanishing Ozone. Part 4. A Habitat Turned Hothouse.

Project. Dogs for the Environment Client. Portland Parks and Recreation A brochure with straight-talking environmental descriptions of dogs' impacts on the ecosystem that people are likely not to know and should care about. The brochure includes a pledge card that owners can sign and return; in exchange they'll receive a green "Dogs for the Environment" bandana.

Project. Integrating Habitats Client. Metro Parks and Greenspaces Integrating Habitats is a series of 16 eight-page foldout-and-poster mailing pieces that feature winners from Metro's international design competition demonstrating how spaces can combine people and nature. The concept and writing work involved analyzing a vast amount of material, proposing a template that would work for the diversity of winning entries, singling out innovative ideas, and writing all text and headings.

Three Rivers Land Conservancy A four-page newsletter featuring stories that embody the Conservancy's mission to inspire and involve people in the conservation of local watersheds through conservatioin easements, stewardship and trails. Writing also includes Annual Report and fund-raising appeals letters.

Project. River Renaissance Report Preface Client. City of Portland, Bureau of Planning The inspirational Preface introduces the City of Portland's River Renaissance Technical Strategy Report. It's intended for the general public; the entire document was sent to stakeholders and interested citizens and is available on the city's web site.

Project. Path of the Salmon: The Lower Snake River Juvenile Salmon Migration Feasibility Study Client. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers This challenging production was designed to introduce the general public to the Army Corps of Engineers' "alternative pathways" for salmon recovery of the Lower Snake River--including the highly controversial and previously unthinkable option of breaching the four dams. The story describes the history of the dams, the biology of the salmon, the Endangered Species Act listings and explicitly illustrates the options under study.

Project. Sandy River Delta: A Wild River Reborn Client. Metro Parks and Greenspaces A Metro Greenscene story, this piece explores the long-overlooked Sandy and its tributaries. It was reprinted on the cover of the Gorge Connections newsletter.

Metro Parks and Greenspaces In celebration of the Greenspaces program's 10th Anniversary and to set the stage for a new bond measure, these stories featured people who were pleased that they had sold their land to become protected greenspaces. A new $125 bond measure successfully passed.
